Firewalking

Fire Keeper

Sig Lonegren booked us both in for a fire-walking workshop back in October of 1995, and announced it to me the evening beforehand, on my arrival at his home in Vermont that autumn.

36 of us assembled at a local chiropractor’s home the next afternoon, with a mix of excitement, wonder and fearful apprehensive anxiety,,,

We shared herbal teas and home-baking, and were told tales of the fire-walking traditions and practices in cultures all over the world – walking on fire, carrying fire, rolling in fire, placing glowing embers in the mouth…

for healing, for renewal, for celebration, to demonstrate truth and courage, to demonstrate devotion and belief. Rites of passage – shamans and monks, 9 year old girls, 40 year old nurses, 30 year old executives – an extraordinary experience available to anyone and everyone.

The fire was lit.

The group energy built and focused as the flames turned to brightly glowing embers – the embers then raked out before us like a fiery carpet, three feet wide, twelve feet long…

everybody walked over except our instructor – who had put in a busy morning at work, before the four hour drive to the venue, and had given us all the energy she had left to lead the experience and hold a safe container.

She had spent about four hours coaching us that to honestly meet fire we had to match the intensity of the fire without with the intensity of the fire within – that the learning from the fire-walk was to recognise and honour that connection and find the balance, and to only walk the fire if we were safely in a full high energy state.

Wisely, she took and demonstrated her own advice.

I think I burned my tongue on the cup of tea after we had finished…

………………………….

Firewalking: Around the planet, throughout almost every age and culture, firewalking has held a place of initiation, personal transformation, healing, and absolute truth in alignment with Spirit.

From the healers of the Kalahari bush people to the Condrusian peasants of Bulgaria, walking barefoot over hot coals burning at over 1,200° Fahrenheit offers an opportunity to connect deeply with our core self, and in simple integrity to match the strength of our spirit to the intensity of the fire before us.

During the workshop, we will learn how to discern and manage our core energies, to use any emotional charge to our best advantage, and to honour the natural cycles and rhythms of our inner and outer being when meeting the daily challenges of life.

Walking on the fire is completely voluntary, and participants are equally supported in either choosing to walk on the fire or to witness and support those who do. Whether or not you choose to walk on the fire, this experience will change your perspective on life and your sense of the possible and achievable forever.

Patrick is a third generation shamanic practitioner who was initiated into firewalking in 1995. He has subsequently facilitated and co-facilitated successful fire-walking events widely in both the US and UK.

Venue: Gloucestershire tbc – Cost: £75.00 –  April 22nd  11:00 – 8:30pm

I would like to emphasise Patrick’s knowledge of the implications of a fire walk for individuals, the importance of creating a safe space and providing the ideal surrounding for it. With regard to insurance, participants are asked to fill in a disclaimer so they enter the event with full responsibility and understanding of its nature.
